My Philosophy of Education
Education is life - you begin at birth and it never actually stops until
you die. From the first day in life our minds absorb knowledge and we can see
how babies learn to walk, talk and understand so much of what is happening
around them, though no one has taught them. So we can say that education means
knowledge, skills, problem solving and creativity. From my personal experience
in teaching, I believe that education is both the act of teaching knowledge to
others and the act of receiving knowledge from someone else. Teachers are the
backbone of the education because they can influence and inspire students
to learn and teach them the skills needed to solve problems and socially by
teaching the skills needed to communicate and work productively with others.
"The best
teachers are those who show you where to look, but don't tell you what to
see." Alexandra K.Trenfo
A good teacher is the one who understands her
students’ needs. Not all students learn at the same pace or in
the same way so the teacher should know how to teach students focusing on
students’ interests, abilities and prior knowledge. I think that it is my
responsibility to create new ways and methods to help each one of them to
understand the lesson. For example, in my classroom I divide students into
groups based on their abilities and I give each group a specific activity
related to the lesson so the whole class can share and understand the lesson .I
think that it is an effective strategy for adequate learning
among students.
I believe that teachers shape the minds of their
students so I believe that questioning is the strongest tool that helps
students to think. It engages students in the learning process and develops the
potential of students to think. The student is taking a more active role in the
learning process; it isn’t just a one-way street where a teacher talks and
never engages with the students. Students will learn more and remember that
asking good questions results in better learning.
In my class I usually encourage students to
participate in activities in which they can learn from their peers. Pair
work helps them to learn from each other by sharing ideas so that students
productively collaborate and cooperate with each other the vast majority of
class time.
Finally, children look
to teachers as role models so I tried to show them how to
treat all people with respect and dignity and I expect my students to do so
also. Our students are like the mirrors, they reflect what you show them. THEY
REFLECT US .
