A good teacher should be one who put her heart into teaching. This will ensure that the students feel the passion and hard work she exerts on them.
One of the most important factors that a teacher has is his or her patience. This will teach them how to manage their own learning and improve their skills instead of just giving them more lessons.
During my university days, I volunteered for a weekly tuition session at a non-profit community organization. While working there, I was able to gain hands-on experience with social interaction and personal skills that I would not have learned in school. It is truly heart-warming to know that these boys are grateful for all the help and support they received from the volunteers. This experience gave me a new perspective on life and education. For me, it is important that I guide my students in their explorations and discoveries. It is also important that I allow them to express their own ideas.
At times, we need to look beyond our academic achievements to discover what makes us special. This is also important for us as teachers to develop our pupils’ confidence and self-competency.
Each student has a unique learning style and abilities, and this diversity in the class made me think about how I approach teaching. I also learned that different factors affect the learning style and abilities of my students.
Although it's not necessary to know all the content knowledge about the subject, planning for a class that actively engages the students requires a lot of planning. Doing so helps prepare the students for the activities that are planned for the whole lesson. Through the courses I took in the university, I was able to design and implement activities that can help develop pupils' relational understanding. These courses also covered various strategies that can promote active learning.
